Brothers by chance, friends by choice.

Posted on March 4, 2010 at 10:53 AM

Drew was never really that excited about having a baby brother he would hit Trent over the head for no reason or pull his hair.  After a few months Drew decided Trent was here to stay and he should embrace it.  Drew was very protective of his little brother and would always say "That my brother" or "That my Tent".  Yes he called him Tent.  Fast forward to this morning at 4 AM.  Drew was very fussy for about an hour which woke Trent up.  Trent went directly into the kitchen for a fruit cup, banana and cereal bar (this is why I have to remember to shut the gate on the kitchen) and then he went back to bed.  Drew settled down and fell back asleep. Trent woke up again at 6.  We were all laying on the LoveSac but morning mom duty called so I went down to do laundry and pack up the car.  When I came back to get them dressed for school this is how I found them.  Please note that Trent's hand is in Drew's hair.

Picture is priceless. Words can't describe any of this or how anyone feels. I pray for all of you daily and hope that somehow you can get through the day. Then I read your blog and realize that though much has been taken from you..much has been given to you...a strength that even you can't see. You are all very special people and I am proud to say we are related!!!

This is the cutest picture of them sleeping together. They always take care of each other no matter what. These 2 little boys hold a special place in my heart and always will.

Valerie, The fact that Drew called his brother "Tent" makes me smile. My brother's name is Trent and that's what Mary Payton always called him.

What a sweet picture. I am Noah and Laine Van Houtan's "Mamo" Am originally from Steubenville OH and still a fan of Pitts. teams . My Dad told me about Drew because he lived in Steubenville OH and read the Pitts. papers. My Dad knew that Noah has Batten Disease but didn't know about Laine having it. My Dad died two weeks ago at 97 , seven weeks after my Mom died at 92.
You are in my daily prayers along with the other Batten families that we know here in the Chicago area.
Hugs,
Jacque
